Curriculum

CURRICULUM

Our program curriculum will prepare you to work as an entry-level nurse assistant who provides basic care to residents of long-term facilities.

Our program emphasizes effective interaction with members of the health care team, restorative services, mental health, and social services.

After completing our program, you will be able to:

  • Give patient-centered basic care to residents

  • Use safety & preventive measures in the care of residents

  • Communicate & interact therapeutically with residents & their families—with sensitivity to the physical, social & mental needs of the residents

  • Help residents attain & maintain maximum functional independence

  • Protect, support & promote the rights of residents

  • Be skilled in observing, reporting & documenting resident information

  • Collaborate with other health care team members

Overall employment of nursing assistants and orderlies is projected to grow 5 percent from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

About 220,200 openings for nursing assistants and orderlies are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
