CURRICULUM

This course prepares a graduate to work as an entry-level Patient Care Technician in a clinic, hospital, or long-term care facility. Graduates will be able to check vital signs, assist in medical examinations, perform electrocardiograms, basic laboratory procedures, and phlebotomy. This program is taught with a combination of lecture, practical exercises in the medical laboratory, and with real-world experience during the externship portion of training conducted off-campus at medical facilities.

To prepare for a vital role in the health care field, IDTC provides comprehensive, knowledge-based training in the following areas:

The BLS projects employment of Patient Care Technician will grow 11% from 2016 to 2026, which is faster than average for all occupations.

According to the BLS, long-term care facilities like nursing homes should see increased demand, as technicians will be needed to help care for patients with chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes as well as dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
